Computers that run a home golf simulator: what people actually buy

Gaming laptops, prebuilt desktops, mini PCs and the no-PC iPad path: the machines that keep coming up in build threads, what GSPro, E6, Foresight Premier and the other sim programs ask for at 1080p and 4K, what the forum argues about, and the subscriptions the spec sheets leave out.

Teed.club·
ℹ️

Short version: pick the sim program first, because GSPro, E6 (2026) and Foresight Premier are Windows only and want a dedicated graphics card, while Awesome Golf and E6 Connect also run on an iPad. For a 1080p projector that means an RTX 4060 class card, and the cost people forget is the yearly software fee: GSPro was $250 per year on October 19, 2026.

Who this is for

You have a launch monitor, or one on order, and a projector or screen, and you have not decided what runs the software. The choices are a gaming laptop you can pack away, a tower behind the golfer, a small box on a shelf, or an iPad and no computer at all. Budgets run from a used graphics card in a refurbished tower to a few thousand dollars for a machine with the software installed.

The sub-shapes

Gaming laptop

A laptop with a dedicated graphics chip on a cart tray or wall shelf, one HDMI run to the projector. It suits a bay that gets packed up. In the threads it runs from $1,015 (an MSI Thin 15 with an RTX 4060, Amazon, August 2026) to $3,439.99 and up (a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i, Home Performance Lab, 2026). The trade-off is heat: a laptop card is slower than the desktop card of the same name, cannot be upgraded, and thin chassis throttle in long sessions.

Prebuilt desktop

A mid tower on a shelf or cart base behind the hitting area, off the carpet and out of closed cabinets. The band is wide: a used RTX 3060 at about $400 inside a $1,400 build (forum, December 2023), a Costco RTX 4060 tower at $899 (forum, January 2024), up to SurfThing's SG3-5802 at $4,699 (October 19, 2026). The trade-off is size, and usually one Ethernet port.

Mini PC

A box the size of a router, roughly $463 to $1,719 depending on the graphics. The Radeon 780M models ($463 to $989, Northcourse, October 18, 2026) meet Awesome Golf's floor and little else. No mini PC has five independent sources in our file, so none is in the bag below.

No computer

A phone or iPad runs the launch monitor's app, and an Apple TV or a $10 to $40 HDMI adapter feeds the projector. It suits the builder who wants a working bay for the price of a launch monitor and an iPad. The trade-off is the program list: GSPro, TGC 2019, FSX Play and Foresight Premier are not available on this path.

What each simulator program asks for

This is the part that decides the rest. The file records the published requirements for nine programs, read on October 19, 2026. Only GSPro publishes a separate laptop table, so for the others the laptop tier is a judgement from the desktop card. Where no 4K tier is published, we say so.

GSPro. Windows 10 or 11 only. $250 per year, read October 19, 2026 at gsprogolf.com. The knowledge base gives desktop tiers of: 1080p, an RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RX 6600 or RX 6700 XT with an i5 or Ryzen 5 and 16GB; 1080p Ultra, an RTX 3060 Ti, 4060 Ti, 3070, 3070 Ti, 5060, 5060 Ti or RX 6800, same CPU class, 16GB; 4K Ultra, an RTX 3080, RTX 4070 or 5070 and up, RX 6900 XT or RX 7900 XT with an i7 or Ryzen 7 and 32GB. Its laptop table: 1080p, an RTX 4060 Laptop, 3070, 3070 Ti, 3080 or RX 6700 with 16GB; 1080p Ultra, an RTX 4070 Laptop, 3080 Ti or RX 6750 XT with 16GB; 4K Ultra, an RTX 4080 Laptop, 4090 Laptop, 3090 Ti or RX 6950 XT with 32GB. The home page is looser, listing a "GTX 3060" (a card that does not exist) and no CPU.

E6 Connect (TruGolf). Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, and iOS on an iPad Pro 1st generation or later, iPad 5th generation or later, iPad Air 3 or later, iPad mini 5 or later, or iPhone 8 or later. No standalone price in the file. The TruGolf knowledge base minimum is a GTX 1070 or equivalent, an i5, 8GB and 25GB. The file's recommended tier is a community target of an RTX 3060 for 1080p and 16GB, with third-party guides citing an RTX 2080 or RTX 4070 Ti for 4K. No laptop table. The iOS version renders in 4:3 at lower detail, and the App Store listing warns about older iPad Air and mini models.

E6 (2026) (TruGolf). Windows 10 64-bit, PC only. No standalone price; sold standard with TruGolf launch monitors. The trugolf.com page gives one tier: an RTX 3060 with 12GB of VRAM, an i7 10th generation or newer, 24GB and an NVMe SSD. No 4K tier, no laptop table. The 12GB floor rules out the 8GB RTX 4060 and 5060.

TGC 2019 (HB Studios, via ProTee). Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 64-bit on Steam; ProTee says Windows 10 minimum, 11 recommended. No price in the file. The lightest PC title. Minimum: a GTX 650 or HD 5770, an i5-760 and 4GB on Steam, or a GTX 670 per ProTee. ProTee's recommended tier is an i7, a GTX 1060 for 1080p and a GTX 1080 for 4K, with 8GB. A 2021 post ran it at maximum on a GTX 1650 laptop.

Awesome Golf. Windows 10 or later, iPadOS or iOS 15 or later, Android for some monitors, Apple Silicon Mac. $159.99 per year on the App Store, read October 19, 2026 (also $14.99 per month or $349.99 lifetime). The floor is integrated graphics, a 2.2GHz dual core, 4GB and 2GB of storage; a 2017 or newer Intel i3, i5 or i7 runs it smoothly. It is the only major title with an integrated-graphics floor. No 4K tier.

Creative Golf 3D (Datacrea). Windows 7 to 11 64-bit. No price, and no single current official spec page, so the manual, retailer tables and a 2025 review disagree. Minimum: a dedicated GPU with 1GB of VRAM (4GB for the 2025 build), an i3 and 2GB. Recommended: a GTX 1070 class card per Foresight, an i5 and 8GB; the 2025 review says 32GB is optimal.

FSX Play (Foresight). Windows 10 64-bit or later; no Mac, iPad or Android. New licences are no longer issued and Premier replaces it (per Home Performance Lab and Northcourse, September 2026). On Foresight's support page: minimum an RTX 3060 (AMD and Quadro unsupported), an Intel 7th generation i5 or better and 8GB; recommended an RTX 3070 Ti, 3080 or 3090, an i7 or i9 10th generation and 16GB.

Foresight Premier. Windows 10 or 11 64-bit. Course Pass $295 per year (35 courses) or Pro $595 per year (111), both needing a Foresight+ Silver or Gold membership, read October 19, 2026 at premier.foresightsports.com. Minimum, 1080p Low: an RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060 Ti or RX 6600 XT, an i5-12500 or Ryzen 5 5600, 16GB. Recommended, 1080p maxed or 4K Medium: an RTX 4070, RTX 3080 12GB or RX 7800 XT, an i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7700X, 32GB. Ultra, 4K High: an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX, 32GB.

Uneekor software. Windows 10 (1803 or later) or 11; an Ethernet port is required, two for the EYE XO. No price in the file. Minimum: a GTX 1060, an i5-8400, 8GB. Recommended on the EYE XO page: an RTX 4070 Ti with 16GB, an i7 12th generation or Ryzen 7 5000, 32GB.

What the nine have in common:

  • Integrated graphics runs one program, Awesome Golf. A Radeon 780M mini PC is about a third of an RTX 4060 (Northcourse).
  • 1080p versus 4K is the fork. 1080p is an RTX 4060 or 5060 desktop, or an RTX 4060 Laptop, with 16GB. 4K is 12GB of VRAM, 32GB and an i7 class CPU.
  • Laptop cards are 70 to 80 percent of the same-named desktop card (Home Performance Lab).
  • Ports and storage matter. Uneekor wants wired Ethernet, a 4K60 projector wants HDMI 2.1 or USB-C DisplayPort, and a 1TB drive is the sensible floor.

Every product below has at least five independent sources in our file. Each group runs from the lower price band to the higher; nothing is ranked.

Gaming laptops

MSI Thin 15 and Katana 15. Thin 15 with an i5-13420H, RTX 4060 and 16GB: $1,015 on Amazon, August 2026. Rain or Shine sells a Katana (i7-10750H, RTX 2070) at $1,750, October 19, 2026. Only the RTX 4060 trim meets GSPro's laptop tier; avoid the x050 cards (September 2024 thread "Will gs pro work with this laptop?").

Lenovo Legion 5i, Pro 5i and Pro 7i. Forum regulars name it first, for cooling. A Legion 5i 16 in with a Core Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5060 Laptop 8GB and 32GB was $1,100 in a November 15, 2025 thread. Home Performance Lab (2026): 5i $1,200 to $1,700, Pro 5i (RTX 5070 Ti Laptop 12GB) $1,750 to $2,600, Pro 7i (RTX 5080 Laptop 16GB) from $3,439.99. Force the discrete GPU through MUX mode or GSPro can land on integrated graphics.

Dell G15, now Alienware 15 and 16 Aurora. Dell's page no longer lists the G15. On October 19, 2026 the Alienware 15 (up to RTX 5060) started at $1,199.99 and the Alienware 16 Aurora (up to RTX 5070) at $1,599.99.

Acer Nitro V and Nitro 16. Nitro V with a Ryzen 7 260 and RTX 5060: $1,449.99 on Amazon, August 2026; Nitro 16 with an RTX 4060: $1,399.99. Reviewers say it runs hot.

ASUS TUF Gaming and ROG Strix. ROG Strix G16 with an i7-13650HX and RTX 4060: $1,539.99 on Amazon, August 2026. ASUS lists the 2026 TUF Gaming 16 with up to an RTX 5070 Laptop at 85W, HDMI 2.1 and an RJ-45 jack. Compare sustained power, not model names: that 85W card sits well under a 140W Legion Pro 5i.

Prebuilt desktops

Refurbished office tower plus a used GPU. A refurbished 4th generation i5 with an RTX 3060 and 32GB "will run most courses at ultra settings" at 1080p (November 2023 thread "Gspro pc spec"). Listings with a GT 1030 or 1050 are below every tier.

Costco and Amazon towers: Skytech, CyberPowerPC and iBUYPOWER. The most repeated bargain in the file is a Costco RTX 4060 desktop at $899 (January 2024). In August 2026 on Amazon: iBUYPOWER Slate MESH (RTX 4060, 32GB) $1,499.99, Element (RTX 5070) $1,899.99. On October 19, 2026: Skytech Azure 3 (RTX 5060 Ti) from $1,399.99; CyberPowerPC Master 8000 (RTX 5060 Ti) $1,909, Master 9000 (RTX 5070) $2,379, Master 9500 (RTX 5080) $3,505.

HP OMEN 35L. A mainstream tower. A MyGolfSpy owner with an RTX 4070 says it "runs great if you are just doing 1080p". No current price was captured.

SurfThing SG3 series. The turnkey option, sold with GSPro, FSX Play, E6 Connect, TrackMan and Uneekor pre-activated. On October 19, 2026: SG3-5602 (RTX 5060 8GB, 16GB) $2,249, listed out of stock; 5702 (RTX 5070) $3,199; 5702Ti (RTX 5070 Ti) $3,799; 5802 (RTX 5080) $4,699. The M3H laptop was $3,699 at Top Shelf Golf, October 16, 2026. SurfThing's own GSPro tests: 105fps at 1080p and 51 at 4K on the 5602. Known issue: one free expansion slot.

Alienware Aurora. From $2,329.99 on October 19, 2026, up to an RTX 5080. The proprietary case limits upgrades: an Aurora R12 owner with an RTX 3080 10GB got FPS warnings on Ultra (November 2025 thread "What GPU?").

Mini PCs

On our watchlist, not in the bag. The Minisforum AtomMan G1 Pro (desktop RTX 5060 8GB, Ryzen 9 8945HX) was $1,719 on October 19, 2026, with no golf owner reports yet; its 8GB card falls under E6 (2026)'s 12GB line. The Beelink SER8 (Radeon 780M) was $859 the same day. A MyGolfSpy member's new mini PC "really lags" in GSPro.

No computer

Garmin Approach R10. $599.99 list, often $499.99 (PlayBetter, August 8, 2026), plus $99 per year for Garmin Golf. Runs the Garmin app, E6 Connect on iOS and Awesome Golf. The Garmin app is portrait only (September 2021 thread "Garmin r10 projector setup").

Rapsodo MLM2PRO. $549.99, from $699.99, on October 19, 2026. GSPro and spin need Premium at $199.99 per year or $599.99 lifetime (Top Shelf Golf), and GSPro still needs a Windows PC.

FlightScope Mevo+. $1,099, shown as a sale from $2,299, on October 19, 2026, with a 12-course E6 Connect licence. It hosts its own WiFi, so an Apple TV must join that network.

iPad with Apple TV 4K or an HDMI adapter. The display bridge. Carl's Place calls AirPlay the most seamless link; a wired adapter is $10 to $40. A new Apple TV 4K showed no price on October 19, 2026.

What the forum argues about

Laptop or desktop. The default answer is a desktop. In January 2025 a club buyer was told "don't buy a laptop, even a gaming laptop, they overheat easily"; in January 2024 a poster weighing an RTX 3060 laptop against the $899 Costco tower was steered to the tower. The counter-case is a bay that gets packed away: a March 2025 thread expected "no issues" at 4K from a Legion Pro 7i with an RTX 5080 Laptop. Two members report burnt-out gaming laptops running GSPro and FSX Play. The usual advice is a 120 to 140W card and a cooling pad.

Does a laptop RTX 4060 meet GSPro's minimum? It depends which page you read: the home page lists desktop cards, while the knowledge base's laptop table puts the RTX 4060 Laptop on the 1080p line. A January 2025 thread says it works at 1080p; a March 2024 reply says laptop cards run 10 percent slower at the 4060 level and over 50 percent slower at the 4080.

1080p or 4K. 4K roughly doubles the budget. A 2024 GolfWRX reply says there is hardly any difference in GSPro unless the projector is very good, and an August 2023 thread notes projectors cap at 60Hz, so the high fps figures vendors print are wasted.

How much CPU and RAM. "GSPro does not use a ton of CPU" is the 1080p consensus, though E6 (2026) and Uneekor publish i7 lines. Makers say 16GB of RAM; members increasingly say 32GB.

Turnkey or Costco. SurfThing buyers say they paid about $3,300 and "could have done it for less", but got the courses loaded, two network ports and a phone number. The file puts the premium at $600 to $1,000 over an equivalent Amazon tower.

The costs nobody prints

Software is the first. GSPro was $250 per year on October 19, 2026, Awesome Golf $159.99 per year, Foresight Premier $295 or $595 per year plus a Foresight+ membership the file does not price. On the no-PC path they stack: Garmin Golf $99 per year, Rapsodo Premium $199.99 per year.

Storage is the second: GSPro courses are about 1GB each, other guides say 1GB to 5GB, so plan 1TB.

Then the small parts: a network card for a wired monitor on a one-port tower, a cooling pad, a spare power brick, the $10 to $40 HDMI adapter. The file prices only the adapter.

Last is the second purchase. Two laptop shoppers ended up buying desktops, an Aurora R12 owner was told 4K Ultra needs a new machine, and E6 (2026)'s 12GB floor means an 8GB card bought for GSPro can fail a program added later.
