Launch monitors for a home golf simulator: what people actually buy
Radar, camera and overhead launch monitors: the units that keep coming up in build threads, how much room depth each one needs, what the forum argues about, and the yearly software fees the spec sheets leave out.
Short version: radar units sit 5 to 10 ft behind the ball and need about 13 to 16 ft of room, camera units sit 1 to 2 ft beside it and need about 10 ft, and overhead units hang from a 9 to 10 ft ceiling and need 14 to 16 ft. The cost people forget is the yearly stack: GSPro is $250 a year, and some makers add $199 to $599 on top before they will connect to it.
Who this is for
You have a garage bay, a basement or a spare room, you have measured it, and you want to know which launch monitor the room allows before you look at price. Budgets in the threads run from about $500 to about $14,000. We do not rank anything: the order is placement type, then price.
The sub-shapes
A launch monitor is sorted first by where it sits, because that decides the room.
Radar
A Doppler radar unit stands 5 to 10 ft behind the golfer, aimed down the target line, and follows the ball out. Makers print about 8 ft of flight as the minimum, so the room runs from 13 ft for the shortest lane to 16 ft or more. Most radar units cost $499.99 to $1,299, and one premium range unit is $4,999. The trade-off is spin: forum owners say radar cannot measure sidespin indoors and estimates it from path and face, so the better units add a camera, marked balls or stickers.
Camera
A camera (photometric) unit sits on the floor 1 to 2 ft beside the ball and photographs impact. Nothing sits behind the golfer, so every camera unit in the data has a 10 ft minimum depth. Prices run $699 to $4,999.99, and spin is measured. The trade-off is that the unit shares the hitting area, several must be moved to switch handedness, and some need club stickers or marked balls.
Overhead
An overhead unit mounts on the ceiling, 2 to 3.5 ft in front of the ball or behind the golfer, depending on the model. The floor stays clear, so left and right handers share the bay. You need a 9 to 10 ft ceiling (10 ft 6 in for one Trackman version) and 14 to 16 ft of depth. Prices run $5,999 to $13,995. The trade-off is the install and the money.
The products people actually buy
The list below is the reference bag for this category: every product that kept coming up across the threads, reviews and videos we read, grouped by sub-shape and then price, with the price and the date it was read, the maker's specs, and one thread worth reading before you buy. Open any item for the pros, cons and known issues people report.

Every product below has at least five independent sources, and the MLM2XPRO has had only days on sale. Depth is placement plus ball flight.
Radar
Garmin Approach R10. $499.99 on Garmin's page on October 19, 2026 (it was $599.99). PlayBetter and forum owners place it 6 to 8 ft behind the ball, 7 ft recommended, with 8 ft of flight: about 16 ft, 18 preferred. Spin is calculated indoors unless you use Titleist RCT balls. Garmin charges nothing for third-party sims. A 2022 thread has owners reporting spin axis wrong at least half the time indoors; one recessed the unit into a wall to manage just over 15 ft.
Rapsodo MLM2PRO. $549.99 sale on Rapsodo's page on October 19, 2026 (list $699.99). Radar plus two cameras. Rapsodo puts it 6.5 to 8.5 ft directly behind the ball with about 8 ft to the net: 15 ft. Spin needs RPT balls. Spin display, club data and any third-party sim need Core ($199.99 a year). No putting. Three long forum threads from 2023 to 2025 report Wi-Fi disconnects; some owners say firmware or a replacement fixed it.
Voice Caddie Swing Caddie SC4 Pro. $599.99 on Voice Caddie's page on October 19, 2026. Radar with a built-in screen, 5 ft behind the ball per Voice Caddie, so 13 ft in total: the shortest radar lane in the data. No subscription, no GSPro, calculated spin. PlayBetter found about one shot in 15 reading wrong.
Rapsodo MLM2XPRO. $899.99 on sale from October 15, 2026 per PlayBetter; we found no Rapsodo page to link. Same sensors as the MLM2PRO, plus putting, an on-unit screen and faster processing per Rapsodo. The distance behind the ball was not published in the sources we read, so assume the MLM2PRO lane. Core is $199.99 a year. With four days on sale at the read date, owner feedback is almost nil.
FlightScope Mevo Gen2. $1,299 on FlightScope's page on October 19, 2026. Radar plus a front camera. FlightScope's setup guide says 8 ft directly behind the ball (FAQ: 7 to 9) with 8 ft of flight: 16 ft. Retailers recommend 13 ft of flight for spin, which pushes a comfortable build to 19 to 21 ft. No subscription, and eight E6 courses are yours for life. Club path, face and dynamic loft need the Pro Package ($1,000 list, seen at $599 to $699 on sale).
FlightScope Mevo+ (2023 edition, clearance). $1,099 on FlightScope's page on October 19, 2026. FlightScope says remaining stock will not be restocked. It sits 7 to 9 ft behind the ball, 8 ft in Short Indoor Mode, so 16 ft is the practical floor. A 2022 thread has owners saying 8 ft of flight works for irons and wedges and the driver settles around 10 ft.
Full Swing KIT. $4,999 on Full Swing's page on October 19, 2026. A 24 GHz radar with a 4K camera and OLED screen, 8 to 10 ft behind the ball indoors: 16 to 20 ft, and Full Swing's own studio minimum is about 18 ft long. No data subscription; GSPro works with no Full Swing fee. Breaking Eighty found it within about 1 percent of Trackman outdoors and weaker indoors, especially wedges under 40 yards.
Camera
Square Golf Launch Monitor Home Edition. $699 on Square's page on October 19, 2026. Dual cameras 42 cm beside the ball and 23 cm back; PlayBetter gives a 10 by 10 by 9 ft room. No subscription and no connector fee. Spin is measured with Square's marked balls; club data needs shaft stickers, and there is no club speed. Reviews report 1 in 12 to 1 in 30 shots failing to register, and a 2024 forum test found driver spin axis inconsistent. Indoor only.
Square Golf Omni Edition. $1,599 on Square's page on October 19, 2026, with backorders reported through September 2026. Four cameras, any ball for spin, about 21 metrics with stickers, outdoor use on grass, about 10 ft deep indoors. No Square fee for GSPro.
SkyTrak ST MAX. $1,695 on SkyTrak's page on October 19, 2026, on sale with a free year of Core: Foresight (list $2,995). It sits 12 to 15 in from the ball on the laser dot; about 10 ft deep. Course play needs Core at $299.99 a year, and SkyTrak is not on GSPro's official list.
SkyTrak+ (discontinued, certified renew). $1,795 was the closeout price Breaking Eighty quoted in July 2026; SkyTrak's own store now lists only a $2,495 certified-renew studio package. Camera plus radar for club speed, 11.5 to 12.5 in beside the ball, about 10 ft deep. Essential ($99.99 a year) is required before any third-party connection works. A 2023 to 2025 thread reports charging stalls and lockups.
Uneekor EYE MINI LITE. $1,999 on Uneekor's page on October 19, 2026 (down from $2,750). Dual high-speed cameras, wired, stationary, indoor only; beside the ball with a 12 by 8 in zone, about 10 ft deep. Uneekor lists a Windows 11 gaming PC (i7 12th gen or Ryzen 7 5000, 32 GB, RTX 4070 Ti class) with Ethernet. The ball-data-only EYE MINI Core is $1,249.
Uneekor EYE MINI. $2,999 on Uneekor's page on October 19, 2026, cut from $4,500 in October. Portable, with a battery and E-Ink display, 15.75 in from the ball, indoors or out; about 10 ft deep. Plugged In Golf found it near a GCQuad through mid irons.
Bushnell Launch Pro (Circle B Edition). $2,999.99 on Bushnell's page on October 19, 2026; several 2026 reviews quote $2,499. Three cameras, the same sensor as the GC3, about 2 ft forward of address and 1 ft lateral. The data's minimum is 10 ft, though PlayBetter's guide says 12 ft minimum and 15 to 17 recommended. MyGolfSpy measured about 1.1 percent average indoor deviation. Returns carry a 20 percent restocking fee.
Foresight GC3. $3,999 on Foresight's page on October 19, 2026, on sale from $6,999 (most 2026 reviews still quote $6,999). Three cameras about 2 ft beside the ball; Golf Simulator Source gives 10 by 10 by 9 ft as the minimum and 18 by 16 by 10 ft as recommended. FSX Play is included. Whether GSPro needs a paid tier is disputed; see the costs below.
Garmin Approach R50. $4,999.99 list per Independent Golf Reviews on October 2, 2026; retailers showed $4,499.99 sale prices in 2026. We link Shop Indoor Golf because the garmin.com page would not resolve for us. Garmin's owner's manual says to place it about 1.5 ft to the side of the tee. Three cameras, a 10 in touchscreen and an onboard simulator with HDMI out, so no PC: about 10 ft deep, 12 comfortable. PlayBetter found it within a yard or two of a GC3. Forum posters dislike the screen sitting near the floor, and Foresight stickers read only about two thirds of shots, so use Garmin's larger ones.
Overhead
ProTee VX. About $6,500 from dealers (Golf Simulator Source, August 15, 2026); ProTee does not publish a price. It mounts about 3 ft 4 in in front of the ball with a 9 ft ceiling, 3 ft 7 in at 10 ft, for about 14 ft of depth. No stickers, a 25 by 21 in zone, a two-person install. Labs is a perpetual license, and GSPro is native with no connector fee. An enthusiast test found carry about 10 percent short of a Trackman 4.
Uneekor EYE XR. $5,999 on Uneekor's page on October 19, 2026 (down from $6,999). Dual infrared cameras mounted behind the golfer, 10 ft up, with a 14 by 12 in zone and no stickers. Uneekor recommends 13 by 16 by 10 ft. It mounts on the opposite side of the tee from the XO2, so check the model before drilling.
TruGolf APOGEE. $7,995 sale price (from $9,000) on TruGolf's shop on October 19, 2026, shown as sold out. A camera 9 to 10 ft above the mat and 21 to 25 in in front of the tee: about 14 ft deep. No marked balls or clubs. An E6 ENJOY tier is bundled and differs by seller. GSPro support is not stated by TruGolf or the reviews we read.
Uneekor EYE XO2. $10,999 on Uneekor's page on October 19, 2026; reviews quote dealer bundles from $6,999 to $13,000. Three infrared cameras 3.5 ft in front of the tee at a 10 ft mount, with the largest hitting zone in the data (28 by 21 in). Uneekor recommends 13 ft wide, 16 ft deep, 10 ft high.
Trackman iO. $13,995 on Trackman's page on October 19, 2026 for the Home edition; Home Complete with club delivery data is $23,495 per Golfstead. Ceiling mounted 3.3 to 3.5 ft in front of the tee, in versions covering 9 ft 4 in to 10 ft 6 in, about 15 ft deep. Trackman says there is no minimum distance in front of or behind the ball, and the DUO version fits bays 10 ft wide. Trackman's software only: no GSPro, no E6.
Left out: units with fewer than five sources or no simulator path (Shot Scope LM1, Blue Tees Rainmaker, Bushnell LPi, TruGolf LaunchBox, Foresight GCQuad and Falcon, Trackman 4) and Rapsodo's CLMPRO, announced but not shipping.
What the forum argues about
How much depth radar needs. Rapsodo and FlightScope print 8 ft of flight; Carl's Place says plan 19 ft or more and Shop Indoor Golf 18 to 20 ft. A 2022 thread settles on 8 ft for irons and about 10 ft for the driver, and another that year says the Mevo+ needs 10 ft of flight for usable spin and 15 ft to shine. Our reading is 16 ft for radar; the 10 ft for camera units is about the ball reaching the screen, not tracking.
The yearly fee is the real price. A Slickdeals buyer called the Launch Pro a great unit apart from the subscription tied to it. Northcourse lists the maker unlock fees side by side, and Foresight+ Gold at $599 plus GSPro at $250 is the number that sends people toward Square, Mevo Gen2 or the EYE MINI LITE. One 2023 poster said Bushnell's basic tier connected to sim software; Bushnell's page says Gold.
Measured or calculated spin. Camera units read spin; radar estimates sidespin, and the cure is a marked ball (Rapsodo RPT, Square, Titleist RCT) or metallic stickers on a Mevo. A 2024 thread traced a GC3's low spin to range balls.
SkyTrak's closed turn. Shop Indoor Golf and Golf Simulator Videos report SkyTrak has stopped officially supporting third-party software. The OpenSkyPlus 2 bridge works but is unsanctioned and tied to app versions 5.4 to 5.8.
Putting and used units. The R10 thread says radar putting is poor beyond about 6 ft, while Square and the Uneekor units are praised for chipping and putting. The forum favorite used is a GC2; ask for the serial and battery history, since subscriptions mostly do not transfer.
Room depth: the number that decides
Radar needs ball flight in front and a lane behind. Camera units need only the distance from ball to screen. Overhead needs ceiling height and 14 to 16 ft. The data's minimum depths, shortest first:
- About 10 ft, every camera unit: R50 (1.5 ft to the side of the tee), Launch Pro (2 ft forward, 1 ft lateral), GC3 (about 2 ft beside), ST MAX (12 to 15 in), SkyTrak+ (11.5 to 12.5 in), EYE MINI LITE (beside, 12 by 8 in zone), EYE MINI (15.75 in), Square Home (42 cm beside, 23 cm back) and Omni (beside).
- About 13 ft: SC4 Pro, 5 ft behind plus 8 ft of flight.
- About 14 ft: ProTee VX (3 ft 4 in in front at a 9 ft ceiling) and TruGolf APOGEE (21 to 25 in in front).
- About 15 ft: Rapsodo MLM2PRO (6.5 to 8.5 ft behind) and Trackman iO (3.3 to 3.5 ft in front).
- About 16 ft: Garmin R10 (6 to 8 ft behind), FlightScope Mevo Gen2 and Mevo+ (7 to 9 ft), Full Swing KIT (8 to 10 ft behind; 16 to 20 ft), Uneekor EYE XO2 and XR (13 by 16 by 10 ft recommended).
- Not published: the MLM2XPRO; assume the MLM2PRO's 15 ft.
Retailer radar guides run longer than the makers': 18 to 20 ft at Shop Indoor Golf, 19 ft or more at Carl's Place, and 19 to 21 ft for a Mevo Gen2 given the 13 ft of flight retailers recommend. PlayBetter's guides give a 10 by 10 by 9 ft room for the R50 and Square. A radar lane must also stay clear behind the golfer.
Ceiling height is the second wall: Square, the R50 and the GC3 list a 9 ft ceiling as the minimum, and overhead units want 9 to 10 ft. Overhead units serve both handers; the Launch Pro and Square Home have to be moved.
The costs nobody prints
The software stack is what spec sheets leave off. Read October 18 to 19, 2026 (Northcourse) unless stated:
- GSPro: $250 a year, no lifetime option.
- E6 Connect: Basic $300 a year, Expanded $600, Home $1,000 perpetual.
- Awesome Golf: $14.99 a month, $159.99 a year or $349.99 lifetime. Not compatible with SkyTrak.
Then the maker's unlock fee:
- Bushnell Launch Pro (Foresight+): Free for ball data, Silver $199 a year, Gold $599 (quoted at $499 earlier in 2026). Bushnell says third-party software needs Gold, so GSPro runs about $849 a year.
- Foresight GC3: the sources disagree. Northcourse and Golf Simulator Source say current units need Gold ($599) for GSPro, with units holding a perpetual FSX Play or FSX 2020 license exempt. Breaking Eighty's June 2026 review says the GC3 needs no subscription. Confirm with Foresight before buying for GSPro.
- Uneekor: Pro at $199 a year is the connector, so GSPro is about $449 a year.
- Rapsodo: Core at $199.99 a year is required for spin, club data and third-party sims, so GSPro is about $449.99 a year. Studios is $399.99.
- SkyTrak: Essential $99.99, Core: Foresight $299.99, Elite $599.99 a year. None adds GSPro. Tier names and prices changed twice in 2025 to 2026.
- Trackman iO: first year of software included, then about $700 a year (Home Complete $1,100). No third-party software.
These carry no maker fee for third-party software: Garmin R10 and R50, FlightScope Mevo Gen2 (the data says the Mevo+ reaches GSPro with the Pro Package), Square Home and Omni, ProTee VX, and Full Swing KIT. For those, a year of GSPro is $250.
One-time costs: the Mevo Gen2 Pro Package ($1,000 list) and Face Impact Location ($499), and the ProTee VX connector for E6 and TGC ($295). Gaming PCs, ceiling installs, marked balls and stickers are extra; the data prices none of those.
If the bay has to fold away
Room depth is the whole point of a bay that folds, because the monitor has to fit when the car or the living room comes back. Take 5 ft as the bay depth and set it against the placements above.
Radar is tight. The SC4 Pro sits 5 ft behind the ball, the whole 5 ft, before 8 ft of flight. The MLM2PRO (6.5 to 8.5 ft), R10 (6 to 8 ft), Mevo Gen2 and Mevo+ (7 to 9 ft) and KIT (8 to 10 ft) each need more than 5 ft behind the ball. The data says the MLM2PRO does not fit a 5 ft deep bay unless the unit sits outside the enclosure.
Camera units have no lane behind the golfer. They sit 1 to 2 ft beside the ball, so a shallow bay adds nothing to their lane: R50 1.5 ft to the side, Square Home 42 cm, ST MAX 12 to 15 in, GC3 about 2 ft. Several are easy to put away: the GC3 is light and battery powered, the EYE MINI and Omni carry batteries, and the R50 is one 9 lb box. The EYE MINI LITE is wired and stationary.
An overhead mount stays on the ceiling when the bay folds, and wants 9 to 10 ft (VX 9 ft, iO 9 ft 4 in or more). It belongs to the room, not to a freestanding bay with a 7 ft 6 in screen top, so our reading is that overhead suits a permanent room.
StowGolf is a fold-flat, freestanding bay with these published facts: 10 ft wide, 5 ft deep, 7 ft 6 in to the screen top, folds flat against the wall, list $2,495, the first 25 at $2,295, and a $100 refundable reservation holds a slot. Against those figures, camera units are the ones with no lane behind the golfer. Nets and other fold-away frames are in the enclosures guide.
Disclosure: Brett Martin runs Teed and builds StowGolf.
